Candidate Information – Justin Hall

Personal Statement:
I am interested in this particular board position because I believe in the EA Co-op and what they provide for our community. When living in Buffalo, I took part in leading some creative problem-solving/brainstorming workshops in developing the Lexington Co-op, which is now on Elmwood Ave. Before moving back to East Aurora, my family and I were frequent shoppers at the Buffalo co-ops. I would occasionally do small carpentry jobs for them as well. Also, when in Buffalo, I helped start an arts-based non-profit called WNY Book Art Center where I sat on the board for 10 years. As a founding board member there, I took part in the ups and downs of a new non-profit organization and helped it grow into the successful community-based center it has become. Lastly, my experience as a local small business owner has equipped me with strong skills in strategic planning, financial management, and customer engagement, which I believe would be valuable assets to your board.

Thank you for the opportunity!

Questions and Answers:

  1. What role do you think the EACM will play in East Aurora’s future?
Simply by continuing to provide quality, locally based products for our community. Growing in membership. Perhaps taking part in the local food market now that it’s around the corner.
  2. In what ways are you working to contribute to and improve the East Aurora community?
I’m a small business owner and most of my work is in the East Aurora area.
  3. If you can find healthy, organic food at another grocery store, why choose the East Aurora Co-op Market?
I like to support locally owned businesses. The Co-op has a more community feeling which I love. And the people who work there are great and it’s nice to see them and have a quick chat.
  4. Which of the 10 cooperative values resonates with you most and why?
Community values. I think more than ever people are searching for connection and to be part of a community. Interest about healthy eating and appreciation for local providers are a growing concern for shoppers. I believe there could be many creative techniques to engage our East Aurora community in this way.
