Founded in 1974, the Blue Hill Co-op has been a gathering place for the Blue Hill Peninsula community for over 30 years. We are more than a one-stop natural foods market and café. The Co-op preserves the feeling of an open-air market where you see friends and neighbors. Our staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. What sets us apart is our commitment to healthy, high quality, local-when-available products at affordable, competitive prices.

We are proud of our selection of local, organic, sustainably grown, international, and specialized items, not available elsewhere in Blue Hill. We offer the area’s largest selection of fresh organic and local produce, year round. We sell over 500 bulk items; some are local, most are organically grown. Our cheese department is known for the raw milk and handcrafted cheeses from Maine and New England, as well as artisan and specialty cheeses from around the world. We offer locally raised, wild, organic and pasture raised meat, poultry and fish.

Our extensive health and beauty section features vitamins and supplements, natural body care products, homeopathic remedies, essential oils, and Maine made and wild-crafted products. Our Cafe offers delicious, freshly prepared vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare daily for eat-in or take-out. Customers can enjoy splendid soups, salads and sandwiches, organic and fair trade coffees and teas, and rich, tasty pastries. Special orders, take-out, and catering are also available.

Our owners are a vital and active part of our store. Owners can take advantage of a variety of benefits and special programs, including discounts, in store specials, and the Co-op Connection that provides a discount for our owners at participating local businesses. We also offer Health Angels, a series of talks and demonstrations open to the public, given by regional experts on complementary medicine, cooking, and using whole foods.

The Blue Hill Co-op is a democratic organization dedicated to supplying wholesome food; sharing information; practicing economic and environmental sustainability; and encouraging community strength with respect for the diverse requirements of all people. All in all, the Co-op is a gathering place for a strong, healthy, informed and empowered community.
