We have a great lineup of events the week of October 20, focusing on education, building awareness of and membership in the East Aurora Cooperative Market, and we’re proud to be partnering with local business and organizations in the process. We hope to see you at one (or all!) of these events:

A screening of “Fresh” and panel discussion

– presented by the Hubbard Film Society and the East Aurora Cooperative Market

Sunday, October 20, 4 p.m.
Parkdale Elementary Auditorium, 141 Girard Avenue, East Aurora NY
Tickets available at the door: $6 Hubbard Film Society members; $8 non-members

As part of the Roycroft Campus Corporation’s “Well-Crafted Weekend,” the Hubbard Film Society has partnered with the East Aurora Cooperative Market to host a special screening of the film “Fresh.” This absorbing documentary surveys American farmers’ and researchers’ pioneering efforts to develop efficient systems for growing food. All of those profiled share a common goal of limiting pollution while creating healthier products.

frsh_poster_8.5x11_1_noprint_guides“Fresh” celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity.  Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet. The “soulless machine” of today’s agribusiness is countered by the societal vision of living and working with your “head, heart and hands,” as Elbert Hubbard’s Roycrofters espoused.

Among several main characters, “Fresh” features urban farmer and activist Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur’s 2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore’s Dilemma; and supermarket owner David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated economy.

The East Aurora Cooperative market will host a panel discussion immediately afterward, featuring Tim Bartlett, Lexington Co-op General Manager; Christa Glennie Seychew, Owner of “Feed Your Soul” Productions and Food Editor of Buffalo Spree magazine; Gerry Miller, HG Miller Farms; and Kent Miller, Plato Dale Farms.

East Aurora Co-op volunteers and and board members will be on hand to answer questions about the co-op and to take membership applications. To learn more about us prior to the event, visit http://eacoop.com.
