The first step in building something from nothing is being able to visualize it. For the more than 920 member-owners of the East Aurora Co-op (let’s pause for a moment and celebrate that number…!), visualizing the Co-op became easier in late May when we announced our location at the Red Brick Plaza on Main Street.
As member-owners, we have a common vision of what the Co-op will be. It will be a place with fresh, healthy food that supports local farmers and producers and strengthens the local economy. It will also be a community hub, where people meet, chat, learn, and exchange ideas. Take a look at the Lexington Co-op’s Story for a better idea of the important role a co-op can play in a community.
At our member-owner annual meeting a few months back, we encouraged people to brainstorm and share their vision of the Co-op. What will it look like? What will it feel like? It was a great exercise and we got valuable feedback. There were certain words that kept coming up: friendly, open, healthy, vibrant, clean, bright, inviting, community.
In order to make that vision a reality, though, we need to bring our Capital Campaign to a successful conclusion. We have come a very long way together, raising nearly $575,000. But we still have a ways to go to reach our $875,000 goal. This is our one opportunity to make the East Aurora Co-op a reality. Together.
Are you ready to invest in the vision and make it a reality? Please contact Sheila Conboy (912-0672) or Mike Benzin (316-1090) or send an email to [email protected]. We’re in the Co-op office at 595 Main Street Sunday – Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 pm and Saturday from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm; or anytime by appointment. Thank you!
